Morris Stemp
Music Teacher
Morris is from South Manchester, he started his music journey by learning in group lessons on violin from the age of 8, after playing the recorder like so many at that time. After schooling, and Manchester Youth Orchestra, he studied in London at Trinity College of Music, where he played in all the college orchestras as well as leading a string quartet in many prestigious concerts. Morris won Solo and Chamber Music prizes, as well as graduating with a Performance/Teaching Diploma.
After a short time freelancing, he joined his ‘home' orchestra, The Hallé, where he spent 14 years playing in the UK and all around the world, as well as from time to time playing as a guest in other orchestras, including Royal Northern Sinfonia, BBC Philharmonic, Northern Chamber Orchestra and Manchester Camerata, as well as in film and recording sessions.
Morris has taught extensively privately as well as in schools and coached Youth Orchestras and ensembles to the highest level.
After leaving The Hallé, Morris has worked to look after musicians across the UK for the Musicians’ Union, reminding all involved that as well as bringing great joy to everyone in performing and listening to music, music can also be a job like no other.
Morris is very much looking forward to a new collaboration with Dansworks that will bring something to Bacup that he believes so passionately can change lives for the better, a passion and belief that is shared by everyone at Dansworks.
Morris and Alexandra are married and have 5 children who all play musical instruments to a high standard. The Stemp family are very well known to us at Dansworks, with two of their children having attended classes for several years.
