Where the Passion Begins

Anna Wheal (nee Cooper)
Woodwind Teacher
Anna grew up in Liverpool and Norfolk and took up the oboe at the age of 9. She studied at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester and continued her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Shortly after leaving Guildhall, Anna was appointed Principal Cor Anglais (English Horn) with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, performing all over the UK and across
the world, including at the Royal Albert Hall Proms and Carnegie Hall in New York.
After a decade in the RLPO, Anna left to pursue a freelance career, and has since played with many of the UK's top orchestras, working regularly with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Halle, Northern Chamber Orchestra, Opera North and the RLPO.
Anna teaches extensively in schools, higher education and privately, and is the
Cor Anglais tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
Anna also arranges music for wind ensembles, particularly for double reed groups of all abilities. Her arrangements have been used by the British Double Reed Society, the London Symphony Orchestra Education Department, the Royal Academy of Music, the Big Double Reed Day, the National Youth Orchestra Oboe Section and Birmingham Music Service.
In her spare time Anna enjoys making patchwork quilts.
